Report on the 2011 Annual Meeting held on 7th June.

In the attractive surroundings of Granta Park nearly 50 people gathered for the annual meeting.  After a welcome from David Ball (Chairman of Trustees), reports on the work of the chaplains were heard from Chris (Team Leader) and Dorothy (Police Chaplain). Everyone also received a copy of the annual report which was available and provides details and reports from all of the chaplains and chaplaincies which are associated with CPW.  The financial position was outlined by Robin Bligh (Treasurer) which this year showed a shortfall of just over £6,000 and a need to raise £14,000 for the coming year.  Andrew Glover (Chairman of Executive Committee) highlighted the ways in which CPW wished to engage with individuals, organisations and churches and encouraged anyone with new ideas for how this could be done or who wished to get involved to let him know.

Gary GrantThe main focus of the evening, after the buffet and networking, was an entertaining talk by Gary Grant, Managing Director of the Entertainer chain of toy shops.  He told his personal life story and how he had encountered Christian faith and the difference that this had made to him, both personally and in the way that he runs his business.

He highlighted three areas that this had made a difference to:

    1. Honesty – in all business dealings with clients and suppliers
    2. Sunday trading  - ensuring staff are given proper amounts of time off for family
    3. Product selections – wider implications than pure profit motive

PanelA lively debate around these issues was then chaired by Bishop Stephen, with a panel made up of Terry Holloway (Marshalls), Shara Ross (Hotel Felix), Richard Higginson (Ridley Hall) and Robert Hallam (John Lewis).

An announcement was also made that Chris Savage would be retiring at the end of June 2012.  More details on how this will be marked and about a replacement will follow in the coming months.

Copies of the annual report are also available and provide a clear overview of the work that the organisation and all of the chaplains are doing.  These can be downloaded below.
